Harris County and Chambers County share one city
Baytown's place record lists Harris County first and Chambers County second. The street sign does not say which side you are on. The appraisal notice does. Harris Central Appraisal District values the Harris County side. The Comptroller's Harris County directory puts that district at 13013 Northwest Frwy., Houston, TX 77040. Chambers County is a different directory. That page lists the Chambers appraisal district's street address as 1222 S. Ross Sterling Ave., Anahuac, TX 77514. Anahuac is not Baytown. It is still the county office for the Chambers County side of this city.
Do not mail a Chambers County payoff to the Houston district and expect the Baytown account to go quiet. The two files do not substitute for each other. The Houston metro page includes both counties in the federal definition of the area. The Houston page is the city of Houston, not the Harris County half of Baytown.
77520 is mostly Baytown; 77521 is the bigger piece of the city
The ZCTA file shows about 66.5 percent of 77520's land inside Baytown, and that slice is about 37.8 percent of the city's land. 77521 is only about 35.1 percent inside the ZCTA, so most of that ZIP is not Baytown. It is listed anyway because the part that is inside is about 46.8 percent of the city, larger than 77520. The ZIP is huge. A minority of a huge ZIP can still be the main body of a smaller city. Both numbers are on this page for that reason.
77523 touches Baytown as well. About 6.6 percent of that ZCTA is inside the city, and the overlap is about 15.3 percent of Baytown's land. It stays off the list because the ZIP itself is mostly not this city. If your mail says Baytown and the code is 77523, the appraisal account decides whether the city ordinance and which county apply. Unincorporated land and the Chambers County side do not borrow 77520's status just because a post office uses the Baytown name.
Say which county the Baytown notice uses
We need the county name from the notice and the ZIP. Harris County with 77520 is a different package from Chambers County with 77521, even when both owners tell their relatives they live in Baytown. If an old deed and a new notice disagree on the county, send both. That disagreement is the title work, and guessing from the water tower does not fix it. Anahuac's street address on the Chambers County directory is the county office, not a hint that the house left Baytown. Houston's district address is the same kind of clue for the Harris County side. The place record lists Harris County and then Chambers County. That order is not a count of which side has more houses.
You can sell as-is, without repairs. We pay all closing costs, and we can close in 7–14 days when title is clear. There is no agent commission. Baytown is not filed under the Houston page. The Houston metro page is the county index if you are comparing this city with a suburb that still has no page of its own.
